Changing the world

A friend and I have been talking about this new idea for a while. He bought into much earlier than I did, but now I see it for what it is and how big it truly is. So with something this big and possibly business changing the question of how to truly distribute it comes to mind. Here are my three ideas of what we could do:

1. build a company around it and create a product to sell
2. try selling the idea to a larger company in hopes they see the same value
3. build a theory and business standards around it and evangelize it everybody
My thoughts on each are:
1. we may not reach a big enough audience to be able to make changes in the industry.
2. the company that buys it might not see the value, or they may try and keep it too closed that others are unable to see the value or underlying importance
3. others try and steal it and make their own, or we miss the boat while somebody else cashes in on our idea
What do you think?

What about the option to build the product/software then pitch it to the bigger business to take advantage of their existing distribution, reputation and support? It's been my experience that a product has more value then an idea.
